Sensex closes 502 points higher (Third Lead)

Mumbai, June 24 (IANS) A benchmark index for Indian equities markets Friday closed 502 points higher on robust all-round buying.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 17,804.94 points, closed at 18,230.01 points (provisional), up 502.52 points or 2.83 percent from its previous close at 17,727.49 points.
The Sensex, which has languished below the 18,000-point mark since the last six trading days, touched an intra-day high of 18,229.58 points.
The 50-scrip S&P; CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange too ended higher at 5,470 points, up 2.82 percent.
Broader markets closed in the green as well with the BSE midcap index closing 2.23 percent higher and the BSE smallcap index ending 1.73 percent up.
