Sensex closes 488 points higher (Lead)

Mumbai, Feb 14 (IANS) A benchmark index for Indian equities markets closed 488 points higher Monday amid buoyant buying sentiments across the market breadth.The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 17,940.16 points, closed at 18,217.47 points (provisional), up 488.86 points or 2.76 percent from its previous close at 17,728.61 points.
The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange shut shop 2.86 percent higher at 5,462 points.
Broader market indices also shot up, with the BSE midcap index closing 3.57 percent higher and the BSE smallcap index ending 3.99 percent up.
