Sensex closes 254 points lower (Second Lead)

Mumbai, May 12 (IANS) A benchmark index of Indian equities markets Thursday closed over 254 points. Broader indices too ended in the red.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 18,525.32 points, closed at 18,330.62 points (provisional), down 254.34 points or 1.37 percent from its previous close at 18,584.96 points.
It had slipped 270 points to 18,314.34 points in intra-day trade.
The 50-scrip S&P; CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange also shut shop at 5,485.75 points, down 1.44 percent.
Broader markets ended in the red too, with the BSE midcap index closing 0.9 percent down and the BSE smallcap index 1.09 percent down.
