Sensex closes 215 points lower

Mumbai, Nov 1 (IANS) A benchmark index for Indian equities markets Tuesday closed 215 points lower amid negative global cues.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 17,540.55 points, closed at 17,489.95 points (provisional), down 215.06 points or 1.21 percent from its previous close at 17,705.01 points.
The 50-scrip S&P; CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange also ended lower, 72.85 points or 1.37 percent down at 5,253.75 points.
Broader markets also ended in the red with the BSE 500 index closing 0.97 percent down. The BSE midcap index closed 0.69 percent lower, while the BSE smallcap index ended 0.56 percent down.
