Sensex closes 162 points lower (Lead)

Mumbai, April 28 (IANS) A benchmark index for Indian equities markets closed 162 points lower Thursday with realty and metal stocks taking the brunt of the selling pressure. Broader markets too ended in the red.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 19,532.85 points, closed at 19,285.85 points (provisional), down 162.84 points or 0.84 percent from its previous close at 19,448.69 points.
The 50-scrip S&P; CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange shut shop at 5,783.8 points, down 0.86 percent.
Broader markets too closed in the red with the BSE midcap index ending 0.96 percent down and the BSE small cap index closing 0.5 percent lower.
