Sensex closes 153 points higher (Second Lead)

Mumbai, July 6 (IANS) A benchmark index for Indian equities Tuesday closed 153 points higher with IT, banking and metal stocks gaining.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 17,402.68 points, closed at 17,595.05 points, 153.61 points or 0.88 percent up from its previous close at 17,441.44 points.
At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty ended at 5,282.8 points, up 0.9 percent from its previous close at 5,235.9 points.
Broader markets indices were also in the positive, with the BSE midcap index ending 0.7 percent higher and the BSE smallcap index up 0.57 percent.
