Seamless connectivity at Delhi Metro’s Dwarka station
November 29th, 2009 - 7:07 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 29 (IANS) The upcoming Dwarka sector 21 Metro station has been designed in such a way that commuters taking the Airport Metro Express Line from there can do so without even switching platforms - thus ensuring a seamless connectivity, Delhi Metro officials said Sunday.
“The Dwarka sector 21 station of Delhi Metro will be unique as it will essentially be two stations merged into one. It will have four levels - the platforms will be at the underground level, concourse at ground level and two levels above for commercial development,” a Delhi Metro official said.
“Moreover, airport express line trains will start from either side of the same island platform where the train coming towards Dwarka terminates. Thus, commuters exiting from Line-3 trains will just have to walk across the platform to board the train to the airport,” the official added.
According to officials, over 40,000 commuters are expected every day between Dwarka Sector 21 and the Indira Gandhi International Airport by next year.
The station area is being developed as a transport hub with a train station (Shahbad- Mohammadpur), inter-state bus terminal and container depot being built in the area by various agencies.
The Airport Express Line as a whole is 22.7 km long from New Delhi Railway Station to Dwarka sector 21 and has six stations including these two. The line is scheduled to be opened in September 2010.
