Samsung unveils smartphone platform for new applications
June 16th, 2010 - 10:24 pm ICT by IANSBangalore, June 16 (IANS) Global consumer electronics major Samsung unveiled its new smartphone platform ‘bada’ for developing next-generation mobile applications.
“Bada, meaning ‘ocean’ in Korean, will be a driving force in accomplishing our vision of a smart phone for everyone,” Samsung president J.S. Shin said in a statement here Wednesday.
The feature-rich open platform, showcased at the company’s global developer day here Monday, provides a complete mobile ecosystem for the benefit of developers, operators and consumers.
“Consumers no longer see mobile phones as devices for voice communication. They relate to their mobiles as communication hubs — as personal gateways to communicate with friends, family and the world at large,” Shin said.
The new platform will facilitate the vibrant Indian developer community renewed the world over to get their applications onto a number of Samsung devices worldwide, the statement noted.
Based on Samsung’s signature TouchWiz user interface, the platform provides an intuitive medium to enhance creativity and user interactivity. Some of its features are flash control, web control, motion sensing, fine-tuned vibration control, and face detection.
“The platform also supports sensor-based, context-aware applications. By using various sensors such as accelerometers, tilt, weather, proximity and activity sensors, application developers can implement context-aware interactive applications,” Shin said.
Indian developers will be able to take advantage of mobile device capabilities to create compelling applications to make phone calls, send messages or access the contact list.
