Samsung plans to double market share in a year

Kolkata, May 29 (IANS) Samsung Telecommunication India Pvt Ltd plans to double its market share for mobile handsets from the present seven percent in a year’s time, its country head Sunil Dutt has said. Launching the company’s flagship mobile Soul here Thursday, Dutt said: “We believe that Soul is the answer for today’s style-conscious consumers, looking for a perfect blend of outstanding quality, design and performance.”

The model is imported from South Korea.

Samsung occupies third position in the Indian mobile handset market after Nokia and Sony Ericsson. It has a global market share of 15 percent.

The company has tied up with Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Ltd (Iffco) to market products in rural areas. This partnership will enhance the company’s rural reach.

Considering the huge mobile phone market in India, Samsung has tied up with various operators to sell their products across India.

It has a manufacturing unit in Noida, which manufactures around six million units a year in 10-12 models. It plans to expand the production capacity of this unit.
