Salary hike in medical colleges to cost Rs.912 mn
December 30th, 2009 - 8:23 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Dec 30 (IANS) The central government has decided to hike the salary of doctors at all autonomous medical colleges, a decision that will cost the exchequer Rs.912 million every year.
“The revised pay scales will be effective from 1.1.2006 and other allowances from 1.09.2008 and pay of existing incumbents will be fixed as per the formula given in the (Central Civil Services) CCS (Revised Pay) Rules, 2008,” the health ministry said Wednesday.
A ministry official said the decision which has been approved by the cabinet will benefit 2,420 faculty members.
“The financial implication for the budget is Rs.91.20 crore annually,” he added.
The health ministry said the regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal, Manipur and LGB Regional Institute of Mental Health in Tezpur, Assam have been taken over by the ministry in 2007 from the North Eastern Council and are currently affiliated to local universities.
“Faculty members of these two institutions will be given University Grants Commission (UGC) pay scales,” the official added.
