Rusting car to auction for 200,000 pounds
April 21st, 2010 - 1:29 pm ICT by IANSLondon, April 21 (IANS) A classic Aston Martin, which has been rusting in a barn for the last 20 years and now looks like a wreck, is expected to auction for a whopping 200,000 pounds.
James Bond films made the DB5 style car famous. DB5s were one of the most expensive cars available in the 1960s, when they cost about 3,000 to 4,000 pounds.
Auctioneers selling the car have said that it will cost the buyer at least another 200,000 pounds to restore the vehicle.
“People interested in buying it are generally very wealthy collectors who want it to be in a barn find collection. This is because they see it as a restoration project and can restore it to their own choice,” Daily Mail quoted Philip Kantor, European director of motor cars for auctioneers Bonhams, as saying.
Only 983 Aston Martin DB5s were made at the Aston Martin factory in Newport Pagnell, Bucks, between 1963 and 1965.
The car to be auctioned is a two door coupe having a top speed of 145 mph.
Apparently, the anonymous vendor did not have enough money to restore it so it was being auctioned off with Bonhams at the Prince of Monaco’s motor museum in Monte Carlo April 30.
