Russia opens inland water to foreign-flagged ships
July 15th, 2011 - 2:17 am ICT by IANSMoscow, July 15 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Russia has opened its inland waterways to foreign-flagged ships after amendments to the country’s water transport laws.
The amendments were approved by both houses of parliament and President Dmitry Medvedev.
They allow navigation of foreign-flagged vessels in the inland waterways for sport, cultural and recreational purposes, if they carry no more than 18 people on board, including no more than 12 passengers.
The crews of foreign-flagged ships must have all necessary documents for the vessel, and for the right to sail under the flag of the country they are registered in.
The Russian government is empowered to approve or disapprove the lists of ports and internal waterways open for foreign-flagged ships.
