RSP achieves best-ever saleable steel production
October 3rd, 2011 - 7:52 pm ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, Oct 3 (IANS) The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of state-run Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), Monday said it has registered its best ever saleable steel production performance in the first half of the current fiscal.
The plant based at Rourkela, about 514 km from Bhubaneswar, produced 1,016,316 tonnes of total saleable steel during the April-September period, registering a capacity utilization of 121.3 percent and a growth of 3.7 percent over the corresponding period last year.
“This was possible because of the growth achieved in the production of the various finished products,” the company said in a statement.
RSP registered the highest ever production figures for any April-September in hot rolled coils (788,807 tonnes), plate mill plates (237,269 tonnes), hot rolled plates (164,059 tonnes) and electric resistance welded (ERW) pipes (27,727 tonnes), it said.
Besides, during the first half, the plant produced 1.13 million tonnes of hot metal and 1.04 million tonnes of crude steel, thereby registering capacity utilization of 109.8 per cent and 108.9 per cent respectively, it said.
