RInfra’s Dahanu power plant gets ISO 50001:2011 certification
September 23rd, 2011 - 9:39 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, Sep 23 (IANS) Reliance Infrastructure’s Dahanu Thermal Power Station (DTPS) in Maharashtra’s Thane district has become the first power generation company in the world to receive an ISO 50001:2011 certification, a company official said Friday.
The ISO certification has been awarded to DTPS for its energy management systems, commitment and endeavours in the field of energy use and environment conservation.
The global firm, Bureau Veritas Certification conducted the audit of various energy managements systems adopted by the power stations for its operations before awarding the prestigious honour to DTPS.
“It is a matter of great pride to become the only power company in the world to receive ISO 50001:2011 certification for energy use and environment conservation. We accept this recognition on behalf of our team members and the entire Indian power sector,” said RInfra CEO Lalit Jalan.
After the certification, DTPS will derive several benefits of energy management, including making better use of existing energy-consuming assets, monitor and manage reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, manage energy use and costs, he added.
“The certification will also help in the implementation of new energy-efficient technologies and management of energy resources,” Jalan said.
The ISO 50001:2011 is the new global standard for energy management developed by the International Standard Organisation. Effective energy management is a priority focus because of the significant potential to save energy and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions worldwide.
The ISO 50001:2011 is awarded to the organisations, who can demonstrate and showcase commitment towards environment, conservation, social accountability and energy management.
This year, DTPS notched remarkable operational excellence and was able to supply cheaper and dedicated 4,423 million units of power to Mumbai consumers.
The plant’s average PLF (plant load factor) touched 101.00 percent with availability factor of 96.48 percent and heat rate of 2282 Kcal/KWh against CERC norm of 2500 Kcal/kwh in seven years.
DTPS is the first power station in the country that has received certifications in quality, environment, occupational health and safety, social accountability, IT security and energy management.
Till date, the plant has bagged more than 80 national and international awards in operational excellence, environment management, safety and corporate social responsibilty.
RInfra generates 940 MW of power through its five power stations, and distributes power to over 5.4 million consumers in Mumbai and Delhi.
It is developing five transmission projects including first independent private transmission project in India.
