RFQ for Diamond Harbour container terminal July 22
July 21st, 2011 - 12:26 am ICT by IANSKolkata, July 20 (IANS) The Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) will issue a request for qualification (RFQ) July 22 for setting up a container terminal at Diamond Harbour, a top port official said Wednesday.
“We will issue the RFQ for Diamond Harbour container terminal Friday. All the top container operators are showing interest in it,” said KoPT chairman L.M. Meena on the sidelines of a programme organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here.
The port trust is gearing up to start work on the container terminal at Diamond Harbour following approval from the central government.
After a high-level meeting between the port authorities and government officials a few months back, it was decided that port trust would get the land at Diamond Harbour against a suitable land at an alternate site on the river front.
The port trust required in total 125 acres of land for the development of the project, of which the 43 acres with the defence authorities is considered to be critical.
It will now get 75 acres from the defence ministry through Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers. In return it will give land at Raichak to them.
On setting up a new port in Sagar island in South 24 Parganas, Meena said: “Work for the new port at Sagar will start after monsoon. After the monsoon, I will issue the work order. In the first phase, 200 acres of land will be acquired.”
