Remunerative market must for farmers: SwaminathanMarch 5th, 2008 - 12:58 pm ICT by admin
New Delhi, March 5 (IANS) Eminent agriculture scientist M.S. Swaminathan Wednesday said that a remunerative market for farmers has become a must to ensure the stability of the farm sector. “Pricing is a very important factor in agriculture. If the farmers get adequate price for their products, their enthusiasm remains intact. We should not forget it is their enthusiasm that is the backbone of the agriculture sector,” he said at the first South Asian conference on agriculture here.
The meeting is focussing on science based agricultural transformation to battle hunger and poverty in the member countries of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
