Reliance hosts global corporate meet in Gujarat

Ahmedabad, March 14 (IANS) A three-day meeting of some of the most affluent CEOs and leaders from India and abroad began Friday at Moti Khavdi near Jamnagar in Gujarat, home to the Reliance Petroleum refinery. Former US vice president and Nobel laureate Al Gore will address the meet Sunday. The prime mover of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) meeting is Mukesh Ambani, chairman and CEO of Reliance Industries and Reliance Petroleum.

Ambani, one of the richest industrialists of the world, earlier hosted the YPO conference in 1999-2000 at Moti Khawdi, about 450 km from here.

Apart from top business leaders and industrialists from all over the world, Indian cricketers and Bollywood stars are also participating in the corporate carnival, a top Reliance Industries official said.

The participants include Laxmi Mittal, Ratan Tata, Kumarmangalam Birla, Adi Godrej, Anand Mahindra, Nandan Nilekani, Azim Premji, Sunil Bharti Mittal, Gautam Singhania, Prashant Ruia, Anshuman Ruia, Shivinder Singh and Malvinder Singh among others.

Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar will be the star attraction while Bollywood stars include Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Juhi Chawla and others will also be there.

During the carnival business meetings and deliberations will take place in daytime followed by cultural and entertainment programmes in evenings.

Apart from six RIL jet planes, two Airbuses have also been chartered to bring in the guests from various places to Jamnagar. Over 200 limousines and Mercedes Benz cars are at the disposal of the guests who will also get two special escorts.

While Gore is to address the conference Sunday, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will hold talks with business leaders Saturday to bring in more investments to the state.

YPO is a non-profit outfit set up in 1950 for company heads all around the world. It has over 20,000 members from more than 110 countries.

The Reliance petroleum refinery complex at Moti Khawdi is the largest refinery in the world.
