Mumbai, June 24 (IANS) The Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group’s Reliance Globalcom has entered into an alliance with New York-based Stealth Communications for expanding their voice-over-Internet protocol (VOIP) network across 50 countries. This agreement will allow Stealth Communications’ voice peering fabric (VPF) to use Reliance Globalcom’s 65,000-kilometre IP-enabled optic fibre network to carry its VOIP traffic.
Said Mike Sauer, Reliance Globalcom’s global voice services president: “Reliance Globalcom is pleased to provide the extensive reach of its network assets to the Worlds largest VOIP community - VPF.”
According to a statement issued by the company, this will enhance reliability of next generation network of Reliance Globalcom.
“This will not only augment the services but will also provide cost benefits to VOIP to end-users,” it added.
Sauer hopes the extended reach of VPF on Reliance Globalcom’s network would enable service providers from new markets to join the VOIP platform at an attractive cost.
Located in major international hub, VPF is the world’s largest peering network for organisations to exchange voice (VoIP) and telephony-related services without relying on traditional telephone networks.
In 2007, VPF carried a record traffic of 200 billion voice minutes, which is projected to double to 400 billion voice minutes this year.
