Reliance Communications bags HDFC’s Rs.1,400 crore order
September 8th, 2011 - 8:17 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 8 (IANS) The Anil Ambani-led Reliance Communications (RCom) Thursday said it has bagged a Rs.1,400 crore order from private lender HDFC for building and maintaining its data centre.
Under the deal, which would span over a period of 15 years, RCom will build a new facility creating space of over 350,000 square feet, the company said in a statement.
The first phase of 100,000 sq ft will be ready in 12 months and the complete data centre would be ready in 24 months. This will also become the new cloud computing centre, since the cloud computing market is expected to grow to Rs.7,000 crore in India by 2015.
“The enterprise environment is changing from large footprint, low power consumption computing equipment to high computing, high power consuming equipment with small foot print. This facility will be the first of this size to cater to this kind of requirement,” said Punit Garg, president and chief executive officer, Reliance Global Enterprise Business.
Reliance currently has 21 data centres spread across the globe, nine of which are in India.
“We have been adding practically one facility in India, every year. We see a growing opportunity in this area and hence have embarked upon creating this large facility,” added Punit.
