Record power generation by Bhakra Beas board

Chandigarh, July 14 (IANS) The Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) has achieved record power generation in the April-June quarter, an official said here Thursday.

“BBMB has achieved record power generation from its various power houses in the first quarter (April-June) during this year (2011-12). The power generation during the quarter was 3,059 Million Units (MUs) whereas the earlier maximum during the first quarter in the last twelve years since 2000-2001 was 3,051 MUs in 2007-08,” BBMB spokesman V.P. Sharma said.

The record generation has been achieved despite the ongoing renovation, modernization and upgrading of two generating machines of Bhakra left bank power house, he said.

The BBMB manages the power houses at the Bhakra Dam (located in Himachal Pradesh) near Nangal, 130 km from here, Pong Dam (also in Himachal Pradesh) near Talwara town, 200 km from here and the Dehar power house at Slapper (Himachal Pradesh).

The power generated by projects under BBMB is shared by states like Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and the union territory of Chandigarh.
