May 1, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): The hooded jackets with drawstrings circulated by 5 Star Apparel LLC of New York have been recalled after it was discovered that the drawstring is posing a strangulation threat to children. The distribution company has recalled about 11,500 of its products, which are recognized in the marketplace as ‘Mecca Children’s Hooded Jackets with Drawstrings’.

These particular jackets have a drawstring through hood, which can generate strangulation. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) discharged rules fourteen years back to assist in the prevention of children from hazardous drawstrings in outfits like jackets and sweatshirts. The industry soon embraced a voluntary standard for drawstrings that was elucidated in the CPSC’s guidelines. In a declaration in 2006, the CPSC’s Office of Compliance discharged that such outerwear with drawstrings at the hood or neck would be considered as substandard and a source of substantial damage to young children.

CPSC has recommended customers to get rid of the drawstring without delay or just return the jacket to the store where purchased for a full reimbursement.

Apparently, these jackets have been created in China, a nation that has a long been associated with the manufacturing of perilous consumer and children’s products, human and pet food, and tablets.
