RComm, Coolpad launch Android CDMA phone in Kolkata
September 8th, 2011 - 11:13 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, Sep 8 (IANS) Reliance Communications Ltd, India’s number two mobile service provider, and China-based Coolpad Overseas will roll-out India’s first fully loaded Android CDMA phone in eight cities in the country soon after launching it in Kolkata Thursday.
Coolpad Overseas, a joint venture of Hong-Kong listed China Wireless Technologies Ltd, is dedicated to wireless data integration solutions with smart phones at the core. It is the number two manufacturer of CDMA phones in China.
“We have a large loyal base of CDMA customers. We have partnered with Coolpad to bring a wide range of handsets to cater to this base. We will be launching the Android CDMA handset in other eight major cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Pune, soon,” said Reliance Communications Kolkata Circle head Mitash Chatterjee after launching Coolpad D530 Android phone in the city.
“The handset will be retailed through Reliance World and Reliance Mobile stores,” Chatterjee said.
With the roll-out of date centric devices like Coolpad D530, Reliance Communications expected a substantial growth in the smart phone data usage revenues, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Coolpad Overseas Managing Director Sami Allawati said the company will set up a research and development (R&D;) facility in India by December 2012.
“The investment for the R&D; facility will be Rs.100 crore. The facility will be set up either in Delhi or Mumbai,” he said.
Allawati said the company was planning to build a manufacturing plant in the country in the next three to four years.
“The capacity of the plant will be about one million units per months. Total investment for that will be about Rs.250 crore,” he added.
