Ratan Tata regrets the company could not do Singur project
August 23rd, 2010 - 9:19 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, Aug 23 (IANS) Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata said Monday he regrets Tata Motors could not do the Nano car project which it wanted to do in West Bengal, but the state would always be there as a part of the group’s corporate identity.
“We regret we have not been able to do what we wanted to do over here,” he said, without mentioning the Singur project in the annual general meeting of the company.
Tata Motors in October 2008 moved the small car plant to Sanand in Gujarat in the face of continuing agitation by Trinamool Congress demanding return of 400 acres acquired from farmers.
“We are dedicated to the cancer hospital that is coming up. It is hoped that it will start this year. West Bengal is very much a part of our total corporate identity,” Tata said.
The company is constructing a cancer hospital in Rajarhat in the northeastern fringes of the city.
