April 11th, 2011 - 4:18 pm ICT by IANSJaipur, April 11 (IANS) Rajasthan’s tourism department will promote the state’s rural tourism sites in the fourth edition of the Great Indian Travel Bazaar (GITB) to be held here April 17-19, an official said Monday.
Department of tourism’s Principal Secretary and Commissioner Usha Sharma said that the state will promote rural tourism sites, its eco parks, sanctuaries and temple towns besides the traditionally popular tourist places and luxury trains.
“The department will also highlight its initiative on promotion of adventure sports tourism,” Sharma said.
She said the GITB will host over 230 tour operators from 55 countries. Over 200 booths will be set up to showcase as many as 1,200 tourist spots in India. Over 500 tourism sector players have confirmed their participation for the event.
“The interactive sessions will provide an opportunity for brainstorming on India’s potential as a tourist destination. The objective of the event is to reinforce India as a world class tourism destination, provide an opportunity to interact with foreign buyers, registered Indian firms, policy makers and investors,” said Sharma.
GITB has fast emerged as a premier Indian travel event in the recent years. It is organised by the union tourism ministry, the Rajasthan government and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
The event will be held at the B.M. Birla Convention Centre here.
