Railways’ first quarter earnings grew by over 7 percent
July 9th, 2010 - 5:20 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, July 9 (IANS) Indian Railways’ earnings grew by over 7 percent in the first quarter of this fiscal, the railway ministry said Friday.
It earned Rs.22,061.13 crore between April 1 to June 30 against Rs.20,610.63 crore garnered during the same period last year, registering a growth of 7.04 percent, a ministry statement said.
The earnings from the passenger movement grew by 6.69 percent and from goods transport 7.20 percent. Earnings from other sources clocked a growth of 8.35 percent.
While revenue from goods transport went up from Rs.13,927.05 crore to Rs.14,930.11 crore, the earnings from passenger traffic grew from Rs.5,802.66 crore to Rs.6,190.70 crore. Other earnings grew from Rs.577.78 crore to Rs.626.01 crore, the statement said.
It added the approximate number of passenger bookings during April-June 2010 stood at 1,937.22 million compared to 1836.51 million during the same period last year, an increase of 5.48 per cent.
