Kolkata, Sep 6 (IANS) Traffic in several parts of Kolkata was hit Monday putting public to inconvenience as Congress workers took out processions ahead of a rally addressed by party general secretary Rahul Gandhi at Shahid Minar Maidan.
Parts of central and south Kolkata saw traffic moving at a snail’s place as rallyists in trucks and buses converged at the venue from various directions while the traffic department closed a number of roads as a security measure.
Important arterial roads and areas like S.N. Banerjee road, Moulali Crossing, Chittaranjan Avenue, Dorina Crossing, AJC Bose road and Esplanade East saw traffic jams with people stranded for a long time.
Gandhi was on a day’s visit to Kolkata and held the rally in the heart of the city.
He also met state party leaders at the state Congress office, Bidhan Bhavan.
