Dubai, Nov 16 (IANS) Qatar Airways Tuesday ordered for 55 Airbus aircraft worth $6.7 billion at the ongoing Dubai Airshow.

The order was made for the purchase of 50 eco-efficient Airbus A320neo aircraft and five Airbus A380 superjumbos. The airline also took options for another 30 A320neos and three A380s, Xinhua reported.

If the optional orders are realised, the total value of the deal will reach around $10 billion, said Airbus Chief Operating Officer John Leahy and Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Bakar during a press conference.

Al Bakar said that this long-awaited purchase by Qatar Airways was delayed due to some “legal issues in the deal with Airbus.” He, however, did not elaborate.

The deal increased the total order value at the 12th Dubai Airshow to almost $50 billion.
