PWD hands over street lights to companies

New Delhi, July 7 (IANS) In order to streamline the functioning of street lights in the capital, the Public Work Department has handed over the maintenance of street lights to power distribution firms.

“We have handed over the maintenance of street lights to all the Discoms and hope that they will be maintained properly. All the five discoms were give the charge last week,” a senior official told IANS.

The move came after Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit decided to rope in Discoms to provide adequate attention on their maintenance and proper functioning.

However, the department has not a handed over the maintenance of newly installed street lights.

“We have not given the street lights which were installed in the run up to the Commonwealth Games in 2010,” said an official.
