Punjab targets 140 tonnes paddy
September 23rd, 2011 - 6:38 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, Sep 23 (IANS) Geared up for paddy procurement beginning in the state Oct 1, the Punjab government has set a target of procuring 140 lakh tonnes this season.
A government spokesman said the procurement will continue till Dec 31 in 1,745 procurement centres.
Paddy procurement in neighbouring Haryana also begins Oct 1. The state has set itself a target of procuring 48 lakh tonnes.
Punjab and Haryana are known as the food grain states of India. Both states contribute over 70 percent of the total food grain to the national kitty.
