Punjab procures 110 lakh tonnes of wheat
May 26th, 2011 - 10:56 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, May 26 (IANS) Government agencies in Punjab have achieved the target of procuring 110 lakh tonnes of wheat this year, an official said here Thursday.
An official spokesman of the state’s food and supplies department said that the wheat procurement target of 110 lakh tonnes has been achieved by five agencies of the Punjab government and the central government’s Food Corporation of India (FCI).
The government agencies have procured over 99 per cent of the wheat arriving in grain markets across the state.
The state government had set up 1,734 centres in the state for wheat procurement.
The spokesman said that Ferozepur district was leading in procurement operations followed by Sangrur and Ludhiana districts.
