craig-2Sep 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) As per the latest reports, the classified advertisement website Craigslist has removed its Adult Services section from its website. Various media sources came up with reports that people logging into the website are finding the section blocked and the word “Censored” written over it. The latest move by Craigslist to censor its Adult Services comes after several state attorney generals asked the website to close the section due to the continued prostitution advertisements and increased public outrage.

Craigslist’s decision to censor the page of its Adult Services section comes on the wake of the death of the infamous “Craigslist killer” who committed suicide in his jail room. Media reports claim that in August this year, a joint letter from multiple states was sent to Jim Buckmaster, the Chief Executive Officer of Craigslist who is also the founder of Craig Newmark. The letter reportedly held that the website should altogether shut down the section as it would not be able to stop accepting advertisement offers. Craigslist has not been able to check the kind of advertisements that had been coming to the organization reportedly. The letter held that “Craigslist clearly lacks the wherewithal- or will” to fight the growing prostitution ads that have been coming up now and then in its website and added that the prostitution business is booming due to Craigslist. The letter added that prostitution is enjoying a booming business “perhaps more than ever before” due to Craigslist’s Adult Services section.

Though it is not known for sure whether it was the joint letter that led Craigslist to censor its content, reports claim that the website owner shut down its Adult Services section on Friday night. However, some media sources claim that the censor applies only for the users of United States and International users can still view the pages.
