Kota (Rajasthan), Dec 1 (IANS) Protesters participating in an anti-FDI stir clashed with the police and attacked a Bharti Walmart outlet here, officials said. Over 15 people, including five policemen, were injured in the incident.
Protesting against foreign direct investment (FDI) in retail sector, the mob tried to put locks on the entrance gate of the retail outlet and pelted stones at the policemen posted there.
According to the police, the protesters were part of a rally organised by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Bhanwari Singh Rajawat and barged into the building despite warnings by the police.
“Some protesters started throwing stones in which five policemen were injured,” a police officer told IANS.
However, Rajawat claimed that over 15 protesters were injured in the baton-charge.
“We will continue with our protest,” he said.
The police have lodged a first information report against many identified and unidentified people for disrupting peace and rioting.
Markets across Rajasthan remained closed Thursday in support of the bandh called by the Confederation of All India Traders against the union government’s proposal to allow FDI in retail sector.
