Project Arrow yielded good results in Punjab: Pilot
April 10th, 2011 - 11:04 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, April 10 (IANS) Project Arrow of the Department of Posts (DoP), to enhance services in core areas, has yielded good results in Punjab, Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology Sachin Pilot said Sunday.
“There has been a significant progress in Project Arrow in Punjab. It has enhanced the quality of service in core areas and upgraded the look and feel of post offices. At present 25 post offices are covered under this scheme,” Pilot told reporters here.
According to him, 18 more post offices are now ready at a cost of Rs.2.87 crore in different towns like Jagraon, Khanna, Rajpura, Ropar, Anandpur Sahib, Sangrur, Batala and Mansa.
Project Arrow was launched in August 2008 aiming to modernise the post offices and to make noteworthy differences in its operations.
Under the project there is strong emphasis on improving the efficiency of mail delivery, remittances, savings accounts and other services, he said.
“In all the big post offices of Punjab, a uniform brand, new computer hardware and most importantly, a single window service system has been attempted with a view to reduce waiting time for customers,” the minister pointed out.
On the initiatives in the IT sector, he said the ministry “would lend all support to the state government in their IT and e-governance related projects. The state data centre will be established at a cost of over Rs.50 crore.”
“The e-district project, in which many services will be provided to the citizens in electronic mode, is under implementation in Nawanshahr and Kapurthala districts at a cost of Rs.6 crore. I urge the state government to offer the maximum number of services online,” Pilot said.
