Production resumes at Chemplast Sanmar’s PVC plant
January 6th, 2012 - 9:13 pm ICT by IANSChennai, Jan 6 (IANS) City-based Chemplast Sanmar Ltd said Friday that production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) had resumed at its Cuddalore plant.
The company had shut down its plant as precaution prior to Cyclone Thane last week.
In a statement issued here the company said: “Although ten days had been estimated as required to bring the plant fully on stream after making necessary repairs to the damage caused by Cyclone Thane and conducting comprehensive system integrity checks, Chemplast’s Cuddalore Plant management, working round the clock have restored operations by 5th January.”
“The plant is now working to full capacity.The Cuddalore plant team have also been involved in relief activities, such as distribution of drinking water, rice, food packets and candles to affected local communities around the plant,” the statement added.
Commissioned in 2009, the Cuddalore plant has an annual capacity of 170,000 tonnes.
The company’s aggregate annual PVC manufacturing capacity, taking into account its Mettur plant in Tamil Nadu, stands at 235,000 tons. It is one of the largest PVC players in India.
