Probe below-par equipment report: Antony
December 8th, 2011 - 10:12 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Dec 8 (IANS) Defence Minister A.K. Antony Thursday ordered a probe into reports that a key military intelligence unit’s imagery intelligence gathering and analysis equipment is below par and is almost a dud.
“The defence minister has asked the ministry officials to conduct an inquiry into the episode,” a ministry official said here.
The reports suggested that the Indian Army’s imagery interpretation capabilities that are critical to provide information on enemy troops locations and military assets have been compromised due to flawed procurement processes leading to critical software upgrades being denied to the unit by the contracted firm.
It also claimed that the Indian company was being contracted again for a Rs.165-crore order for supply of software for which it does not hold licenses anymore.
