New Delhi, Aug 20 (IANS) A private member’s bill seeking regularisation of unauthorised colonies in the capital without delay was Friday rejected by the Delhi Assembly with Urban Development Minister A.K. Walia noting that the resolution was “not maintainable”.
The resolution moved by the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Sahab Singh Chauhan said that besides regularisation, the required basic amenities be provided in these colonies to provide relief to about 40 lakh people living sub-standard life.
In his reply, Walia said the ministry was closely monitoring progress of regularisation process of unauthorised colonies and already basic civic amenities like sewerage, water supply, electricity and street lighting are being provided in many of these clusters.
He said following the guidelines for regularisation, about 1,639 applications were received and forwarded to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the Delhi Development Authority, and the forest and revenue departments for layout plans.
Walia said his ministry has authorised the city government to issue provisional regularisation certificates to unauthorised colonies that fulfilled certain requirements.
A time period of 12 months from the date of issue of provisional certificates was prescribed to complete the formalities by different agencies before formal regularisation.
