President’s daughter to holiday in Shimla

Pratibha Patil Shimla, May 13 (IANS) President Pratibha Patil’s daughter and grandchildren will stay at a resort near this Himachal Pradesh capital during their week-long sojourn, a state government official said here Friday.

Accompanied by six other family members, Pratibha Patil’s daughter Jyoti Rathore, her husband and their two children will stay at the sprawling summer holiday resort of the president, called ‘The Retreat’, in Charabra, just 15 km uphill from here.

A government spokesperson said while the children and other family members will reach Charabra Saturday, the couple will arrive Sunday.

He said the family plans to visit nearby tourist spots, including Narkanda and Naldehra, known for its British-era golf course.

President Patil stayed in ‘The Retreat’ for six days in May 2008. At that time, she was accompanied by 10 family members, including her husband Devisingh Shekhawat.

The cottage of Priyanka Vadra, the daughter of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, is also coming up in the vicinity of ‘The Retreat’.

Charabra is located at a height of more than 8,000 feet and known for its thick pine and cedar forests.
