President Obama to visit Chrysler and General Motors plants in Detroit and Chicago
July 24th, 2010 - 4:08 am ICT by BNO NewsWASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) — President Barack Obama will be visiting Chrysler and General Motors (GM) Plants in Detroit and Hamtramck, Michigan on Friday of next week and a Ford plant in Chicago, Illinois on August 5, the White House announced Friday.
President Obama made tough decisions last year in order to help save Chrysler and GM. These companies are now returning to profitability, hiring workers, and keeping plants open. With the Cash for Clunkers and the Recovery Act, the industry overall is improving and strengthening.
The Hamtramck GM plant is one of nine that GM recently kept open during a scheduled summer shutdown in production, and the Jefferson North Chrysler plant recently added a second shift bringing approximately 1,100 jobs to the plant. The Chicago Ford plant has announced plans to add 1,200 new jobs thanks in part to Department of Energy loan guarantees to invest in clean energy upgrades.
