Aug 27, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The president of USA Barack Obama is keen on introducing hybrid electric vehicles in the US states in the near future and one official in his government has made him proud by showing the way to others. The assistant secretary for international affairs and policy of the Energy Department, David Sandalow has set the example by converting his Toyota vehicle into a hybrid one. He is a proponent of electric vehicles since they do not pollute the atmosphere like the fuel driven ones. They also do not cause sound pollution like conventional cars.
David Sandalow has said that he needs to use gasoline only once per month which makes his Toyota car really eco friendly. He needs to commute 5 miles each day and for that he charges his Prius Hybrid in his carport. He converted his vehicle two years back so that it could be charged from electric outlet. He can drive the car for almost 30 miles after charging at a time. The fuel mileage of his car has also shot up. He is of the opinion that the residents of USA must think about other options than fuel for transport.
The car industry is also embracing hybrid and electric vehicles. Nissan is releasing its zero emission model Leaf later this year and every major manufacturer in the USA is set to release their eco friendly models. The biggest obstacle on the way of mass adoption of electric cars is the steep cost of the battery and parts. The federal government is trying to make things easier by offering tax incentives and funding.
