Pranab’s budget lacks vision, will enrich affluent: Swaraj

New Delhi, March 1 (IANS) The budget for 2011-12 lacks any broad vision and will only help the affluent sections of society, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj said Tuesday, describing the finance minister as “myopic”.
“The finance minister talks about a Rs.35,000 crore fund for social sector development. That too debt funds,” said Swaraj while addressing the 83rd Annual General Meeting of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) here.
The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha pointed out that when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the prime minister, his government came out with proposals worth Rs.60,000 crore for the golden quadrilateral road project because he had the vision more than a decade ago.
Swaraj slammed Mukherjee for taking a “myopic view” of the budgetary requirements of the common man and coming out with proposals that will nurture only exclusive growth, benefitting the upper strata of society.
“If the finance minister wanted to take care of the common man, his allocations for infrastructure related sectors should have been close to Rs.2 lakh crore as against a meagre Rs.35,000 crore,” Swaraj said.
