Pranab to visit Britain to discuss trade ties, reforms

New Delhi, July 24 (IANS) Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee is to pay a day-long visit to Britain for a ministerial-level economic dialogue to be held in London Monday to deliberate on macro-economic policy issues.
Mukherjee will co-chair the dialogue with British chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne. This is the fourth such exercise being conducted by the two countries.
The economic and financial dialogue would focus on wide range of issues such as strengthening of G-20 and IMF surveillance, the Britain-India infrastructure partnership, global and domestic financial regulatory reforms and strengthening of financial sector reforms.
Among other issues that would be part of the discussions include strengthening partnership in the education sector and increasing collaboration in the financial sector.
The Indian delegation comprises R. Gopalan, secretary of department of economic affairs; Kaushik Basu, chief economic advisor to the finance ministry; and U.K. Sinha, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India.
Mukherjee will return on Tuesday.
