Power tariff hike is inflationary: Jayalalithaa
August 2nd, 2010 - 1:15 pm ICT by IANSChennai, Aug 2 (IANS) AIADMK chief J. Jayalalithaa Monday condemned the power tariff revision in Tamil Nadu and termed the move inflationary.
The Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) Saturday announced a hike in power tariff rates between 30 paise to Rs.1.10 per unit for various categories of consumers after the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) moved an application in this regard.
Citing the hike for industrial, commercial, educational consumers, cinema theatres and other categories, Jayalalithaa said the move would severely impact city dwellers.
At a time when people are suffering from soaring prices of essential commodities, oil and cooking gas, the hike in power tariff in the state has caused more grief to the residents, she said.
Jayalalithaa said the state government should take immediate action to remove the additional burden on the people.
