Power discom to crack down on farmhouse ownersJuly 28th, 2008 - 11:22 pm ICT by IANS
New Delhi, July 28 (IANS)A leading power discom in the national capital, BSES Monday said it would undertake house-to-house survey to crack down on farmhouse owners who use “agricultural connections” for domestic purposes. “There are around 5,000 agriculture connections cumulatively consuming around 17,500 Kilowatt of electricity in the BSES licensed area. A large majority of these connections are in elite farmhouses,” a BSES official said.
“We are planning to crack down on such blatant misuse of electricity connections which are causing a significant monetary loss to BSES. For this we will conduct a house-to-house survey, especially among farmhouses,” the official added.
The BSES has thus advised the farmhouse owners to check their connection category and avoid penalty for misuse of their connections.
“Most of the people use their farmhouses for residential purposes or weekend getaway but have taken an electricity connection under agriculture category, which is a gross violation of prevailing Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission and Indian Electricity Act, 2003, guidelines,” the official said.
