Ranchi, March 5 (IANS) Jharkhand Deputy Chief Minister Raghubar Das, who holds finance portfolio, Friday announced the state would provide food grain and salt to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families at Re.1 and 25 paise per kg respectively.
“The state government is giving priority to food security in the state and now BPL and Antyodaya families will get food grain and salt at Re.1 and 25 paise per kg respectively in the state,” Das told the state assembly while presenting the 2010-11 budget.
He said: “To implement food security properly in the state, the government will make the Public Distribution System accountable to improve the condition of the poor people.”
Das also stressed the need to rectify the BPL list so that maximum families could be included in it.
“An all-party delegation will soon meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and demand rectification in the BPL list, so that the schemes’ benefit could be extended to the maximum number of people,” Das told reporters after presenting the budget.
At present, 23 lakh families in Jharkhand are covered under the BPL list.
