New Delhi, Sep 27 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will inaugurate a three-day international conference on Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy here Tuesday that will discuss options to contribute in developing a roadmap for the growth of nuclear energy and its peaceful applications.
The conference is being organised as part of the year-long programme to mark the birth centenary year of Homi Jehangir Bhabha, who founded the Indian atomic energy programme and also had the distinction of being the president of the first international conference on this subject in Geneva in 1955.
“It is being organised by the Department of Atomic Energy in association with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Indian Nuclear Society (INS),” said a government statement.
“The scope of the conference will cover both power and non-power applications of nuclear energy. Several policy makers and eminent nuclear scientists and technologists have agreed to participate in the conference.”
The inaugural session will be addressed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, IAEA Director General Mohammed ElBaradei and INS president P. Rama Rao.
Nuclear power challenges for growth, evolving nuclear technology and nuclear radiation for human welfare are some of the topics listed for the plenary session.
