On Board Air India One, Sep 27 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Tuesday said he would seek the help of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to resolve the row concerning the dropped Teesta river water pact with Bangladesh after she had raised a red flag earlier this month.
Manmohan Singh also said Mamata Banerjee and her government should help create an enviornmnet where a meaningful, viable solution could be found to the problem
“We would seek the help of the West Bengal government and of Mamata Banerjee to create an environment where a meaningful viable solution to this problem is found,” he told reporters on board his special aircraft on his return home from New York after attending the United Nations General Assembly session.
Manmohan Singh had visited Bangladesh earlier this month when the Teesta water agreement was scheduled to be signed. It was dropped at the last moment after Mamata Banerjee backed out from accompanying the prime minister to Dhaka in protest against the pact.
However, India and Bagladesh have expressed the hope that they will be able to sign the agreement at a later stage.
