PM mourns death of noted economist

New Delhi, June 21 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Tuesday mourned the death of noted economist Suresh Tendulkar, terming it a “personal loss”.
In a condolence message sent to Tendulkar’s widow Sunetra, the prime minister said: “In Suresh’s demise, our country has lost one of our most eminent economists. His work on poverty was pathbreaking and will continue to guide and inspire the coming generations of economists.”
Manmohan Singh said the death of Tendulkar is also a great personal loss to him. “He was a very dear friend and a colleague whose advice I valued immensely.”
Tendulkar, an authority on poverty and a former chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, died Tuesday.
