Piped cooking gas costlier in Delhi
July 1st, 2010 - 11:30 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, July 1 (IANS) Natural gas retailer Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) Thursday hiked the price of piped cooking gas by 93 paise in the capital.
The step has been taken in the wake of the increase in gas price under the Administered Price Mechanism (APM) announced by the central government in early June.
Effective from Thursday, the new charge for consumption of 90 standard cubic metre (scm) in four months is Rs.16.85 per scm, as compared to Rs.15.92 per scm earlier, an IGL official said.
He said for consumption over 90 scm in four months, the charge will be Rs.21.12 per scm. Till now, consumers were paying Rs.20.19 per scm for consumption over 90 scm.
“However, even after revision, the domestic PNG prices would be quite economical than the alternative liquified petroleum gas (LPG). The price of PNG in Delhi by IGL even at the revised price of Rs.16.85 per scm is the lowest in the entire country,” the official added.
Also, because of differential tax structure in Uttar Pradesh, the applicable price of domestic PNG in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad will be Rs.18.32 per scm up to consumption of 90 scm in four months. A new rate of Rs.21.93 per scm will be applicable for gas consumption over 90 scm in four months.
The IGL network has connections in 190,000 households and commercial establishments.
The price of compressed natural gas (CNG) was increased June 16 from Rs.21.90 to Rs.27.60.
