Photographers at Commonwealth Games get a helping hand
October 7th, 2010 - 12:05 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Oct 6 (IANS) Leading Japanese imaging major Canon Wednesday opened a service booth at the Main Press Centre of the Commonwealth Games to provide professional services to sports photographers accredited for the event.
The 42 sq metre booth will operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Canon has deputed a team of 14 engineers to manage the centre for 14 days.
“Besides, three engineers from Canon Singapore will also be at the venue to offer service support along with additional manpower flying down from Singapore,” a company statement said.
Canon recently inaugurated its Level IV Master Service Centre at Connaught Place “with a clear focus towards the tourists visiting the Commonwealth Games. These initiatives are Canon’s commitment to ensure a delightful experience for Canon customers during the Commonwealth Games 2010″, the statement added.
Announcing the partnership, Kensaku Konishi, president and CEO of Canon India, said: “Canon will be providing world-class professional services to the Indian press journalists as well as the 400 visiting press journalists during the gala sports event.”
“Our aim is to provide a photographic experience for conspicuous photographs of every sports event of CWG 2010,” he added.
“In case of a major fault, all accredited photographers with a Canon EOS 7D and above models will have an option of being able to use Canon stand-by cameras, on certain terms and conditions.
“If some major repairs are required, then customers can either visit the Master Service Centre in Connaught Place or Canon can arrange for the camera to be sent to the centre and delivered back to the customers. The customer will be charged in case any spares are used,” the statement added.
Commenting on the partnership, Alok Bharadwaj, senior vice president of Canon India, said: “The Canon Service Booth will provide services like free of cost basic checks of cameras, CMOS cleaning and also provide stand-by cameras. Our centre aims to provide extensive support to professional photographers to capture historical pictures.”
Canon internationally sets up similar service centres during major sporting events like the Olympics.
“This is in line with Canon’s commitment to its customers around the world to provide them with a delightful experience of owning a Canon,” the statement said.
