- Melbourne, November 19 (ANI): A nudist group have sent a petition bearing 1000 signatures to the government in support of another nude beach in Sydney.
The demand to have the right to bare it all had been backed by most of the public who favoured the notion with 91 percent of their votes in the Southern Courier online poll, reports the Daily Telegraph.
Representatives from the NSW Free Beach Action Group, who sought support from higher authorities, delivered the petition to Randwick Council, the Deputy Premier, Carmel Tebbutt, and the Local Government Minister, Barbara Perry.
Action group member Katina Mellado suggested the chances of an afforded trial of Little Congwong beach as a nudist area, which has been snubbed by Randwick councillor Robert Belleli.
Katina said: If we can have it for a couple of years, we can show you we are not the evildoers we are being made out to be; we are not indecent or immoral, and if we didnt do any harm in the last 40 years, why now? (ANI)

The logic of people who oppose naturist beaches goes like this.
Why is it indecent? Because it is.
Why is it a danger to children? Because it is.
Why is it contrary to family values? Because it is.
Why might somebody be offended. Because they might be.
Notice a pattern here? The arguments against nudist beaches are usually dressed up in self righteous indignation and obfuscation but clear that away and they boil down to “I don’t have any rational reason but I don’t like it.”
The attitudes of a society have consequences. Try comparing the figures for body image related problems such as teenage pregnancy and promiscuity for prudish and liberal countries. For example Australia, UK and USA compared with say Denmark and The Netherlands or indeed most other European countries. The differences are enormous. Faced with that evidence it is difficult to understand how Cllr Belleli can face himself in the mirror each morning. Unfortunately some prejudices are very deep seated.
I will be in Australia again in about a year and I hope to be able to visit Little Congwong and dress sensibly. My watch.
